Back to exploring and a nice quiet life, this was something she was looking forward to. But, she also knew that in the fleet, this very rarely happened. Something always got in the way. There was always something that put a new twist on a situation and this was something that she enjoyed and feared at the same time. Sighing, she looked at the family photo that perched on her desk and smiled. Her brothers and sisters all together a few years ago.... before she'd been assigned to the fleet and this ship. They'd not spoken in such a long time and she knew that she was partly to blame for that. Everything that had happened since joining this ship had affected her more than she realised and what she ached for now was the company of family and the rolling hills of home. (Reply Bradford)Looking up, she saw the blonde woman standing before her and she smiled,"I'm sorry, i was thinking about home. Doctor Philbin, and you are?"(Reply Bradford)She remembered something about a new head nurse being assigned here. This new sickbay was bigger and needed more staff so it had only made sense for Alexander to hire someone. She rose from her chair and shook this woman's hand firmly and said,"Nice to meet you. Have you had a chance to settle in?"(Reply Bradford)Siobhan nodded and said,"Well, that's good. So take a seat, tell me about yourself."(Reply Bradford)(Posted by Jackie)(USS Mithrandir-B-Sickbay-HN Lieutenant JG Celia Bradford - 1034)You Ok? "I'm sorry, i was thinking about home. So take a seat, tell me about yourself."If you dont mind Ill stay standing, Ive been sitting all morning.(reply Philbin)Anyways lets see. Well then I went to the Academy with Captain Alexander. That kind of how I ended up here, he needed a head nurse and I was available. I was stationed on Geneva during the Civil War and ended up going through the time jump. Guess he must have kicked some butt on the Spectre though. I knew he would get here though. I mean it made perfect sense. He had an innate leadership quality about him. He didnt ask to be a leader but he was able to take over when he needed to. Have pretty much spent all my career onGeneva, so when an old friend gave me the opportunity to get onto a ship, well I took it. A curious look flittered onto her face. So this woman obviously knew Will from way back. She looked at her and said, So how long have you known our esteemed Captain? Lets see Will and I, we were good friends back at the academy. He may have been 4 years older than me, but we were good friends, he was like abig brother back then, really helped me stay focused on classes. She smiled again, somehow talking with Celia was soothing to her. Learning about his background was something she hadnt thought about and it wasputting a new perspective on the man she had developed intense feelings for. It still hurt that here was this gorgeous woman who had more intimateknowledge of Alexander than shed ever get the chance to have but she also knew that she had to get over this. Hed made it perfectly clear that hewasnt interested. "Me either. Wills a great leader. It hasnt been easy for him but hes got the makings of one of the great fleet captains. (Reply Bradford) She bit her lip and said, Lets just say that weve reached an understanding. Hes made it perfectly clear that its his career before anything else. I can understand that butI wont pretend that it didnt hurt a little. She paused a moment and sighed,It was a tough time for all of us and I probably made things worse by telling him how I feel. But Ill get over it. Its out in the open now andtheres nothing I can do about it so, well, here we are. She laughed a little, forced but heartfelt. It hurt to talk about what had happened and this was something she really didnt want to go over rightnow. (Reply Bradford) She nodded and said, So, you know our Captain of old then? Any funny stories you wanna share? (Reply Bradford)(Posted by Jackie) (USS Mithrandir-B-Ready Room-FO Kirsten Summers-1040) There is no rule breaking however, but we need to have a serious chat, you, me, and Mr. Briggs. While I dont have a problem with dating between members of the senior staff, there are guidelines.Kirsten nodded and replied," I expected that."For one it cant interfere in your duties, especially with any perceived favoritism. Meaning, no special perks for dating the FO. None of the best shifts, no extra days off. If you are off duty and he is on duty and you want to see him, sorry you cant get him off duty. If you do, I will view it as insubordination. Is that understood."Certainly, Sir. That will not be a problem."While I dont have a problem with the forming of relationships, I will not let it interfere with your duties. If you ever come to the point where you feel your relationship with him will interfere with your duties, you need to let me know ASAP."Of course. I understand my duties are to this ship, first and foremost."You also need to take thing SLOW. I say this as both your commanding officer and a friend. It has only been four days, things go well earlier on, you can never tell until you are months in. Dont let things progress too fast. Otherwise if things dont work out, it could make for a very hostile work environment. I just need to make sure you know that. Dont be too over eager. Dont invite him to move in the minute you leave this office. Take things slow and enjoy it.She smiled, his concern was refreshing and much needed. After her earlier concerns, she'd begun to wonder what had been happening but she knew that it was something she wanted to persue. "Oh i intend to. I'm not one for jumping head first into anything."Just remember you have a duty to this ship and the entire crew, not just Jason. There will come times, unless you ever marry him, that you will need to put the needs of the crew or ship first. Keep that in mind. If you dont think you are able to handle to juggle your job and the relationship let me know. It is easier to replace a first officer or a boyfriend then it is a good portion of the crew."Sir, you have nothing to worry about. Whilst i may have a wild and head strong bajoran in me, i know about it and work hard to taper it's effects."If you think you can do all I asked, then I have one last thing to tell you, Happy hunting.Kirsten laughed at this comment. Something unexpected and most welcome after the more procedural talk,"Thankyou, Will."Now then is there anything else I can do for you?She nodded and said, "I think that's it. Thankyou and i will be careful. I respect you too much to let you down and can assure you that there will not be any problems from this." (Reply Alexander) Kirsten rose from her chair and said, "I think it's time to get back to the bridge. Only the prophets know what this crew would get up to without your guidance!" She winked. (Reply Alexander) She smiled widely and walked back onto the bridge. (Reply Alexander) (Posted by Jackie) (USS Mithrandir-B-Bridge-Counselor- Lt. Alosar-1041) Alosar sat back and looked at his well constructed schedule. He'd met with the FO already and had plans to meet with the CO. The CMO had managed to find medical emergencies that "required her personal attention" for their last two scheduled appointments at the hologym. Not wishing to jump to conclusions, he could only presume that the emergencies were real. But he also knew the human propensity to avoid dealing with their emotional issues. It was time that he met with the rest of the senior staff, then move on to junior crewmen. He looked over his schedule one more time, making sure that he was giving himself, and the officers, enough time to discuss any possible issues, and time to process the information. [As per Starfleet regulations, and psychological assessment is required by the Chief Counselor on all Starfleet vessels. Please report to the counseling office at the appointed hour. Lieutenant Alosar] He didn't know how necessary the last line was, however, he did know that most officers needed an incentive to see a counselor. "Computer, send message to those addressed." (reply M'Elissa, McKenzie, Syvik) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Mithrandir-B- Bridge - SC Lieutenant JG Syuvik - 1100)Syuvik was sitting on the Tactical Console forhalf anhour now, after the Mithrandir B left the station. The tactical sensors wasn't indicating any unusual readings, and there was no communication....no distress signal......it was an ordinary hour at Tactical. It was also the first time Lieutenant Kerib Tharel was leading the Security Alpha shift. Syuvik had not taken a decision yet as for the official function everyone would take in his security department. The decision was harder than he thought, and some unexpected events prevented all the simulations to take place, meaning the evaluation process was incomplete. Thus, Syuvik decided to give temporal assignment according to the grade until the evaluation was completed. As there was only one Lieutenant aside from Syuvik in the security department, Kerib Tharel was the default security assistant and alpha shift leader. According to his grade, he was more than legitimate to have this responsibility and function. After all, he had the same grade than Syuvik, and was also more experienced. However, the Andorian had several bad notes in his records, having been retrograded three times for insubordination and, use of unnecessary violence. Tharel was a very agressive andself-confident person, who made him a quite unstable element on a department. It was even surprising his last captain decided to promote him to Lieutenant. Syuvik was plenly confident in his leadership ability to command the security department when Syuvik was on the bridge. What was going to be more a problem would be during away mission where his reaction would be rather unpredictable. Nevertheless, it was logical to give him a chance to prove himself, and part of giving him this responsibility meant to trust him for the time being. Syuvik mind went back to his tactical duty. As expected, the Mithrandir was warping a well-know sector of space, and the probabily that everything went normally was almost 100%. If the Mithrandir would have more unusual report, it will be only once they had reached a part of unexplored space, which would take still several days to reach. The Mithrandir B was tested in the shipyards, but since then, it never was really tested. Syuvik turned in direction to the captain. "Sir, ma'am" (Reply Alexander or/and Summers)"It is logical to assume that we won't face any proper situation to test the ship in real situation until we have reached the unexplored part of space. Considering we don't what could happen in unexplored space, it would be better if we could test the ship before reaching it. Therefore, I recommand sir, ma'am, at the moment and location of your own choosing, that we once get out of warp and make some tactical tests." (Reply Alexander or/and Summers)(Postedby Nick)(USS Mithrandir-B- Bridge - FO Lt Cmdr Kirsten Summers - 11.01) Kirsten was sat on the bridge, quietly contemplating what was instore for them when a voice broke her concentration "Sir, ma'am" Kirsten turned to Syuvik and said, "What can i do for you, Mr Syuvik?""It is logical to assume that we won't face any proper situation to test the ship in real situation until we have reached the unexplored part of space. Therefore, I recommand sir, ma'am, at the moment and location of your own choosing, that we once get out of warp and make some tactical tests." She smiled and said, "That's not a bad idea. Perhaps you should work on a timetable for these tests and then, we'll see what we can do."(Reply Syuvik)Kirsten nodded and settled back to face the viewscreen. This was where she had fought to be and this was where she wanted to stay. She had set her sights on becoming a Captain one day but, for now, she was content to serve this ship and this crew as their FO.Thinking back to her roots and how much her father had been disappointed in her choice of career, she realised that she come far in the last few years. True, it was a far cry from her initial calling as an archaeologist but shehad found a new contentment in Command and relished the challenges and experiences it had brought. As her thoughts drifted onto her earlier conversation with Alexander, she began to wonder if she had made the right choice in telling him, thisearly. What if things didnt work out for them and they were stuck working together in such close proximity? She knew how she felt about him, even if it had been a few days. There was an instant spark between them and sheknew that she had felt it as she had felt his reaction to her. Shaking her head, she watched as the crew went about their business. Alexander still in his meeting with Alosar which made Kirsten smile a little. She could tell that he wasnt one who enjoyed meeting withCounsellors. ~Wonder how thats going?~ she thought to herself as a small smile crept over her lips. The ship was running smoothly and functioning as it should but she felt it was time to test out the newly fitted sensor array. Turning to McKenzie, she said, Mr McKenzie. (Reply McKenzie) Start a long range sensor scan of the immediate area. (Reply McKenzie) She smiled and said, We need to give these sensors a run and see how they perform. See if they need any tweaking at all. Best way to do that is to run scans, as far as I am aware. She winked. (Reply Syuvik, McKenzie, Any)(Posted by Jackie)(USS Mithrandir-B- Bridge - SC Lieutenant JG Syuvik - 11.02)Syuvik presented his idea to Commander Summers : "It is logical to assume that we won't face any proper situation to test the ship in real situation until we have reached the unexplored part of space. Perhaps you should work on a timetable for these tests and then, we'll see what we can do.""Yes ma'am".Syuvik nodded and looked back at the tactical console. While keeping the tactical analysis center open on one of the console, Syuvik used the second screen on the console to write a timetable for the tactical tests. What they needed to practice was the capacity of the ship for different settings. Firepower, accuracy, impulsemaneuverability, power transfer, etc. Part I could be a red-alert combat situation. Different targets could be thrown in space, and the test would be to calculate how efficient and how fast the ship was to destroy them. It was logical to test at the same time some attackmaneuversand therefore practice the tactical, helm and command coordination during those tests. Part II could be a defense situation test. Using some of the shuttle, and make them fire on the ship, and calculate the damage and quickness of the ship to recover. It could be also useful to test the efficiency at which it was possible to reroute power from other sources to compensate for the attacks. Part III could be a ground training, testing the accuracy of the ship transporter, in different situation, including different atmosphere, and transportation in situation of combat where the enemy try to prevent transportation.(Posted by Nick) (USS Mithrandir-B, Deck One, Bridge, Chief Science Officer Lieutenant(Junior Grade) Kenneth McKenzie, 11:03) Mr McKenzie He heard. (Reply Mckenzie) (Posted By Jackie) (USS Mithrandir B - Deck 13, Science Sensor Control Room - Ensign (JG) Jennifer Bates - 1200)It was her first shift of her life as a starfleet officer. Despite the good words of her roomates, and her superiors, Jenniferhad notthe mental self discipline of a Vulcan and, as it was the case all week long, she could nothelp herselfavoiding the overwhelming stress. She felt tired, being unable to sleep, overthinking what could happen during her first day on duty. The fact she was also unable to eat, the stress and stomachache preventing her from swallowing anything, did not helped either. Her afternoon shift began at 1200 and she arrived 30 minutes in advance....anxious of not being late for her first duty shift. Jennifer moved to one of the main science sensor console. The Mithrandir had left Geneva Base an hour and half ago. According to her study, science sensors efficiency during warp drive was considerable weaker than in impulse drive. They were mostly only configurated to detect spacetime anomalies, nebulas, planet and systems in the sensor range of the Mithandir. While she was working, one of the senior staff came to talk to her."It is your first shift, right? Don't worry, everything will be perfect. I am Senior Petty Officer Carolina Wilkins.""Oh, hello. Yes...it is my first shift. Ihave butterflies inmy stomach....I'm Ensign Jennifer Bates." said Jennifer, whileholding herbellywith her right hand."We all past through this, but you will see...after a couple of hours, you will feel okay....... I remembermy first day. It was onan Intrepid-Class, the USS Bellephoron. It was in 2375, during the Dominion War.We had a mission on Romulus foraconference. I remember we were afraid that changelling could be on board, and not only it was my first day,but everyone around me was paranoid. I was ordered to scan the shipto detect them, but I was so afraid I would fail to detect them and I would be responsible for the death ofpeople....Buteverything went well finally. It is normalto fear mistakes, but you have been at the academy, andyouknow everything you need to know, so be confident in yourself. Everything will go well."Her words were conforting, butconsidering her amount of stress, it was still important. "Thank you." "Sometimes, you have to stop thinking about it and concentrate onwhat you are doing. Our orders are toscan for any particular phenomena in the sectors. I know there is a Flare Starseveral light years from our position. I believe with the Luna-class sensor range, we could scan it." Carolina and Jennifer entered somecommand on the sensors control and madea scan of the Solar Flare. After a few minutes, the preliminary results arrived on the console. "Wow... the Luna-Class sensorsare really better than the Nova-Class." said CarolinaJennifer studied the results. Thanks to herdegree in astrophysics, and her academy formation, she knewa lot about Solar Flare and it was the first time she had the chance to verify our knowledge in realtime situation. As expected, the preliminary scan revealed random outburst. The energy pattern around it would certainly been affected. That was a normal phenomena with Solar Flare. The intensity and extend of the change in the energypattern was however not available to the preliminary scan. "I'm not very familiar with the Nova-class. I know it's a small science ship, but other than that, I know nothing. How different isit with our new ship?" asked Jennifer."Oh, it's a lot different. The Nova-class wasprobably 6 times smaller than this ship. It hadonly 8 decks, andeven it had very good sensors, better than most of the other ship, this ship has slightly better sensors.... Ithought it would be unnoticeable but from what the Solar Flare scan reveal, it is enough to see a difference in thedetails of the sensors scan. You feel safer too. On the Nova-class, you always fear abit vulnerable."Jennifer was listening carefully. "How many crew membersthere was on the Nova-Class?" "Only 80!" ~Well, that'snot a lot...~ thought Jennifer. Jennifer and Carolina continued to look at the result of the scan.(Reply no one)(Posted by Nick)(USS Mithrandir B - Bridge - FO Lt Cmdr Kirsten Summers - 1320)Kirsten sat in the big chair, watching the crew go about their daily routine. She found herself watching Jason talking to one of the other crew, a young female Ensign. She could tell, even with her betazoid side, that the girl was flirting with him. Her Bajoran side began to roar in her mind and she fought to keep it at bay. The last thing, after her talk with Will earlier, she wanted was to show herself up infront of the crew. However, after a few moments, she watched as Jason stopped talking to her and the girl looked a little upset but hid it well. She smiled, ~He's told her no! He's not interested.~ She thought to herself as the Ensign walked to the turbo lift. Keeping her gaze away from the woman, she caught Jason's eye and gave a slight nod to him. He returned the gesture and a smile appeared on her face for a brief moment. Suddenly a voice interupted their private moment,"Ma'am, here is the complete tests timetables. I believe it will take us at least 30 hours to make the necessary preparations for the first part, approximately 10 hours for the second parts and 12 hours for the third part. It is however only an approximation. Taking into account our warp speed, the time needed for the preparation, and time to sleep, I have included different locations where we could make those tests without any danger. For the first and second part of the tests, it could be done in free space and therefore could be done anywhere. However, the third part requires a breathable planet but inhabited. Considering our potential location in space, there was only two eligible planets, but I believe there are excellent places for practice."Kirsten turned to see Syuvik, holding a Padd infront of him. Realising what he was talking about, She nodded, took the Padd from him and read a little of the timetable and propostion that he had presented her with. It looked good and well thought out. Kirsten looked up from the Padd and said, "Excellent work, Lieutenant. I'll put this to the Captain at the next availible oppertunity." (Reply Syuvik) Kirsten smiled and said, "I would like to discuss with you another idea i've had but i think another time would be more appropriate." (Reply Syuvik) "That's fine with me. Perhaps come by my office then and we can discuss it in more detail." She knew she was being a little cryptic but for her idea to work, the fewer people that knew about it, the better. So conferencing with the Second Officer and then proposing this to the Captain made perfect sense. (Reply Syuvik) Kirsten beckoned him to the seat next to him and said, in a low voice, "On a more personal note, i would like to take you up on your offer to help me meditate soon." (Reply Syuvik) She sighed and said, "After everything that's happened recently, I feel like now is as good a time as any to gain the assistance of a Vulcan master." She smiled and winked at him. Realising the Vulcan attitude to humour, she knew that this would probably confuse Syuvik a little, her choice of words and she had to admit that she had done it, slightly, on purpose. Her playful side, since becoming involved with Jason, had resurfaced again and she was glad that it had. (Reply Syuvik, Briggs iyw) (Posted by Jackie)(USS Mithrandir B - Bridge - SC Lieutenant JG Syuvik - 1323) The general tactical tests was completed. A long and descriptive test scenarios was elaborated with the three different part. Each part needed some preparation. For the first part, they needed to prepare a dozen of probes specially modified to analyses the damage and accuracy of the Mithrandir phasers and torpedos. Also, in order for the test to be successful while losing no probes, it was necessary to modify the phasers and torpedo and the probes accordingly so as to simulate different firepowers while being in fact inoffensive. That meant a lot of jobs for tactical, operations, and engineerings. The Flight Control Officer, tactical and command staff would also be quite occupy, elaborating attacksmaneuversand preparing the ship precisely for those maneuvers. Part II was similar except that this time, it was going to be engineering who would be the most occupied. While several pilots would be asked to pilots the shuttle and attack the ship according to different attack patterns, operations and engineering would have to coordinate in order the respond to their attacks. As for part III, is was going to be more about security, command, operations and medical.Once done, Syuvik presented itpersonallyto Commander Summers."Ma'am, here is the complete tests timetables. "Yes ma'am" Kirsten beckoned him to the seat next to him and said, in a low voice, "On a more personal note, i would like to take you up on your offer to help me meditate soon." It was a request Syuvik had been waiting for a long time. However, with the addition of a Vulcan counselor, Syuvik did not knew what to do. Logic dictated that he should tell her that since he accepted to help her, the ship was assigned a new chief counselor, and therefore the situation changed and it was the duty of the counselor to help her. However, emotions were a very complicate matter and it was maybe logical not to act according to logic. Syuvik needed a few more seconds to think. "Is there a specific reason why now rather than any other time?" She sighed and said, "After everything that's happened recently, I feel like now is as good a time as any to gain the assistance of a Vulcan master." She smiled and winked at him. Realising the Vulcan attitude to humour, she knew that this would probably confuse Syuvik a little, her choice of words and she had to admit that she had done it, slightly, on purpose. Her playful side, since becoming involved with Jason, had resurfaced again and she was glad that it had.Syuvik rose an eyebrow at Summers' comment. Syuvik a Vulcan master? "You have to know I have never lived on Vulcan. Therefore, I lack culture. But I believe you did not meant it seriously?"(Reply Summers)Syuvik needed more time. "We could talk about it when I will meet you tonight. However, I need to inform you that I'm not sure how I should be acting concerning you need, now that we have a Vulcan chief counselor. Logic and emotions dictate two completely different conclusion. I may need to have the advice of our captain to know what starfleet recommand in this circumstance."(Reply Summers) (Posted by Nick) (USS Mithrandir B - Bridge - FO Lt Cmdr Kirsten Summers - 1327)Syuvik rose an eyebrow at her comment, "You have to know I have never lived on Vulcan. Therefore, I lack culture. But I believe you did not meant it seriously?" She smiled widely and said, "See, Vulcans can understand humour." "We could talk about it when I will meet you tonight. However, I need to inform you that I'm not sure how I should be acting concerning you need, now that we have a Vulcan chief counselor. Logic and emotions dictate two completely different conclusion. I may need to have the advice of our captain to know what starfleet recommand in this circumstance." She nodded and replied, "To put it simply, I trust you. I know it's not 'logical' to not trust the new counselor. But this isn't anything other than one friend teaching another something new." (Reply Syuvik) She reached and lightly touched his arm, "Mr Syuvik, I will respect what ever you decide."(Reply Syuvik) (Posted by Jackie)(USS Mithrandir B - Counselor Office - Lieutenant Syuvik and Lt. Alosar - 1700) As requested by the counselor, Syuvik was ready for his appointment at 1700. Alosar had probably already took a look at his personal file. His file didn't mention anything about being rejected by the Shi'karh Academy, nor that some considered him as being a V'tosh'katur. It was one of the big mysteries that Syuvik never understood about Vulcans. How could it be logical to discriminate and being intolerant. Syuvik had taken time to get to know Alosar a bit better, and he was able to find some of his early writings. There was a reason to believe Alosar would not be an exception. There was a reason for Syuvik to believe that the conversation he was going to have, despite being between two Vulcans, would not be around mutual understanding, but more about cultural differences. "Hello Lieutenant. I believe you have already read my personal file, and previous psychological evaluations, but there are always things that are not mentioned and that interest a counselor. Feel free to ask everything you want to know about me." Alosar raised a single eyebrow, thinking that was an odd way of introducing oneself. "Indeed, I will, most likely take you up on that offer. But for now, please sit down, and we shall get to know one another in a more traditional way." Syuvik nodded and sat as requested. Once the Chief Tactical Officer was seated Alosar looked at him carefully, trying to detect any sense of the Romulan portion of his identity. In fact he seemed to have more of a human air about him than the the orderliness of either a Vulcan or Romulan. It was an intriguing dichotomy. "So tell me Lieutenant," Alosar began, "how do you feel about serving aboard the Mithrandir?" Syuvik rose an eyebrow at the word "feel". "Lieutenant, I think you meant assess? They are a competent crew with considerable skills. There was a kind of proximity on the Mithrandir A, explainable by the size of the crew, having only 80 members. The change of ship with fourth times more personnel will certainly change that mentality and I therefore don't know how much it will affect this. Living with humans, trill, bajoran, betazoid is interesting. It is quite a different perspective from our own, but nevertheless deep and offering new ways of thinking....new logical options to investigate. Furthermore, humans curiosity further her knowledge and the possibility of the universe, Therefore, serving the ship and starfleet is a logical decision for someone seeking to improve his knowledge and experience." Alosar managed to maintain a his passive face as he responded. "That was a fine assessment of the ship and your presence aboard her. However, I did not misspeak. When I asked how you feel, I did actually mean for you to incorporate your feelings into that assessment. I do understand that you are v'tosh ka'tur, and in so realizing that it is my intention to see the level of your commitment to that philosophy. I am neither judging nor evaluating. It is simply the question it appears to be. How do you feel?" ~Of course he was going to ask that question~ thought Syuvik. It was logical that a Vulcan counselor would try to know more about it. "I'm not sure it is wise to identify a child according to his parents philosophy or to judge someone only by his customs. I admit my parents were indeed proud v'tosh ka'tur, but would I consider myself being one? Probably not. I don't have a precise philosophy about it. I don't cultivate my emotions, but I don't purge them either. Would you identify me as a V'tosh ka'tur, probably? Why? Precisely because I don't purge myself from any emotions and sometimes even try to experience them, and have a better knowledge of them. From my point of view, it is logical to have a better knowledge of the things that move most individuals, and affect the few. It is well known that most species are quite emotional. Furthermore, Vulcans have emotions too. Trying to ignore them, or avoiding them might seem logical if the risk they cause are troubles, as they did in the Vulcan history, that are too great to ignore. But is purging oneself from emotions through Kolinahr the only logical choice? I don't think it is. I don't think having a better knowledge of emotions, while still always keeping them in control thanks to logic, is an illogical choice. Logic is fundamental and on to logically first. If Vulcans have an essence, it is logic. On that aspect, I share your position. But Spock one said : "Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end." and I agree with him." Alosar sat back as he listened to the Chief Tactical Officer. He rested his elbows on his desk and steepled his forefingers, in concentration. Indeed, he spoke of his own embracing of his emotions, as he allowed his own emotions to guide what he had to say. However, clearly Alosar had made an error in judgment. "I would also agree with Ambassador Spock," Alosar admitted. "He was certainly a visionary in Vulcan philosophy, even though, I suspect, he would deny that claim, stating that he worked solely from a scientific position, and that his goal was to find that which was most logical. I have made a supposition that appears to be erroneous. I predicted that you were v'tosh ka'tur, through the evidence available to me. Apparently my initial hypothesis was incorrect. I ask your forgiveness." Syuvik stared at Alosar. He had to admit having a Vulcan apologize to him was almost a first. Since he had been rejected from the Shin'ahr Academy, his relations with Vulcans were quite difficult and for a rare case, Alosar seemed more open minded....more ready to understand Syuvik experiences and life. "You do not have to ask forgiveness. Considering what information you had, your presumption was logical. Now that the information about me is more complete, you have now adjusted your thoughts accordingly." "In my experience, I have found that once anyone has been, for lack of a better term, infected by emotions, there is little one can do but help them understand what triggers their emotional responses. Vulcans do, indeed, experience emotions, there is no denying that. However, to allow those emotions to contravene rational, logical input, is not logical. Kolinhahr is not a denial of emotions, but rather a purging of allowing any emotional response to any input. It is a very difficult and timely process. Both of my parents went through it before their union. I myself have not gone through the process. Perhaps when I have more of an inclination to do so I might. However, at present I do not see the need." "However, we both know that the causal relation between emotions and actions is not direct, at least not for a Vulcan. The will, or mind, is the real source of action and must always be. Emotions can influence the circumstances and information processed by the will, but should never lead to action without the will consent. At least, that's how it is for me." He reflected for a moment and then continued. "I'm not certain that I agree with that statement completely, as I have often observed many taking action solely on the advice of their emotions. It is my hypothesis that any who embrace these emotions would do similar. Vulcans do not react on emotion as they have trained themselves not to do so. May I ask you a personal question?" "Of course." "Although some v'tosh ka'tur abandon logic, not all, in fact most, do not. Is there a reason that you do not desire to fully embrace the lifestyle, while you parents did? Do you think that they were wrong?" Syuvik breathed a few seconds, searching his mind for the most exhaustive and precise answer. "I wouldn't qualify it as wrong. Part of what constitutes a reasoning is examining circumstances and, according to them, assessing what is the best thing to do. My parents lived on Nimbus III at the moment when the planet had been completely abandoned by Vulcan, Klingon, Romulan and Humans. The communities dissolved and therefore, my parents never really had the occasion to live in the Vulcan way. They were left to themselves. The only Vulcan community they were able to find was a sect following Sybok teachings. They followed it, and as they were mixed with Romulans, Klingons, Humans, emotions become, for them, a normal part of their life. It's not that they choose emotions over logic but more that they were left with nothing else but emotions. My life was different. I was born on Regulus III, and had a very good education. I was curious about my ancestors culture, the Vulcan culture, and decided to follow it. I was later helped in learning Vulcan culture my a mentor. My life moved me towards logic, my parents life moved them towards emotions. Even if following emotions was not a logical decision, there is a logical explanation for them to be that way, logic was not offer to them as an alternative. It was for me." Syuvik paused a second before resuming. "But, a mind can only do things about the objects he knows. As my parents taught me a lot about emotions, for so long it has been part of the information my mind processed each time I was taking a decision. It is therefore logical that I put a lot of thought about them. Did I want them, should I purge them, should I learn to live with them, control them? Right now, I think I have the discipline, the knowledge and the mental control to live with my emotions while never letting them run me. Am I mistaken and will my emotions take over one day. There is a chance. But considering I am part of Starfleet, and I live now with humans, the advantage of knowing about emotions and use them when I need to, outweigh the risk of having them." Alosar sat silently for a minute as he digested, ruminated and organized the information that Syuvik relayed to him. It was, indeed, a tale. It was amazing that his parents feral, Vulcan, instincts did not cause them to life of violence more than it had. Then, for a child to so rebel against a parental lifestyle to an extent of almost rejecting it, was also quite an accomplishment. However, he wasn't convinced that Syvik had the control over his emotions that the Tactical Chief believed he did. However, this was their first meeting and he was not prepared to test out this line of reasoning. He would file the train of thought and revisit it at a later time. "You have made quite an accomplishment of yourself, Ensign," he finally said. "To find a modicum of logic in a world of chaos is extraordinary. To maintain control of raw Vulcan emotions, without the needed instruction is shows an amazing level of self control. I would be intrigued to meet your mentor, and investigate his tutorial techniques. I understand your acceptance of your level of emotional control, and would like to challenge it some time. I would also offer my own services in helping you maintain your control, and even increase it, if you so desire." "I know I have been promoted from the academy only one year ago, but I'm a Lieutenant, Lieutenant Alosar." said Syuvik calmly. He had not been lying, but Syuvik certainly presented himself in a better way in order to avoid the discrimination he had always been victim of by other Vulcans. His mentor certainly played a great role in Syuvik's control of emotions, but the real truth is, Syuvik really gained that control years after having broken all contact with him. He was closer to most Vulcans today because his emotions once were a burden to him, and now he had a better balance and control over his emotions, but if any Vulcan knew about the emotional collapse he had five years ago, they would certainly have the same opinion, even if Syuvik was now convinced that he had a very good control of himself, which was not the case four years ago. "You give me more credit than I deserve. Part of my success is physiological, and curiosity about my ancestor and culture were sufficient to lead me into a life with logic. But, as I said, I am still far from Kolinahr, so there are limits to my accomplishment. I have to say you present yourself as someone who could help me if I need to, and I recognize your merits." "I would like to meet with you again, to assess your level of control of your emotions," Alosar offered. Syuvik's evaluation of his control was positive, but at the same time, he could not ignore either the risk of overestimating his own ability. If he succeeded, he would certainly gain the trust of Alosar, but he had no idea the sincerity and challenge Alosar would impose to him to test his emotional control. He could be logical to push the test very far, and if he did, that was the unknown. He needed more practice.....emotional practice. But there was someone he could ask to help strengthen his control over emotions... Kirsten Summers. Syuvik looked back at Alosar and nodded. "I will certainly keep your offer in mind and when the time will be proper answer your call for assessing my level of control." Alosar nodded, and let the challenge lay. It would be pointless to push the point, but rather allow Syuvik the opportunity to seek out help on his own. In that way, the help he received would be more welcome, and any assessment given would hold more weight. "Very good Lieutenant," Alosar replied as if Syuvik had agreed, after all, he did not reject the proposal, "I will be ready when are. Remember that I am always here for you when the need arises." Syuvik stood up from his seat and nodded. "It is noted, Lieutenant."(Posted by Nick and Al)(USS Mithrandir B - Science Sensor Control Room, Deck 13 - AssCSO Ensign Jennifer Bates - 1957)Jennifer first shift was now done and for the first time in a month, she felt relieved. It had been a simple day. She mostly just scanned for any anomaly or phenomena during the Mithrandir warp travel. With Carolina Wilkins, she made some sensors tests to get more familiar with the sensors, but generally, it was an ordinary day. Nevertheless, a first day remain a first day, and all day long, she had a stomachache and felt anxious.Carolina and Jennifer was preparing for the shift transfer. It was now time for the night shift to relieve them."So, it wasn't that bad, isn't it Jennifer?" asked Carolina.Jennifer smiled. It wasn't bad indeed. Carolina had been very nice and it certainly helped her through the day. "Yeah, and I have to thank you for that. If it was of you, I would have died there so much I was anxious.""That was nothing, really. It was just normal that I helped you get more comfortable. In my situation, you would have done the same.""Maybe, but I would have done it as well as you. You are very good at making other people comfortable, and you have a good sense of humor. In your place, I would have tried to help me so much that I would have stress me even more.""You seem to be the kind of girl who expect a lot of herself.""You have no idea" replied Jennifer. The two night shift officers arrived, and both Jennifer and Carolina left the Sensor Control Room and walked towards the turbolift."After my shift, I always go to the Mess, to eat something. Wanna come with me?" asked Carolina."I'm so hungry, awesome idea." After the stress she had all day long, she really wanted to eat her stress.... but she then realized that she had sweat a bit. "But if you don't mind, I would like to take a shower before. I prefer to eat when I'm clean.""Yeah, me too., So, we meet at Nine Forward at 2015.""Deal!"(Posted by Nick) (USS Mithrandir B - Nine Forward, deck 9 - AssCSO Ensign Jennifer Bates - 2014)Jennifer arrived at Nine Forward only one minute short of their meeting time. Carolina was already sitting at a table alone with a plate. She went to the replicator."A plate of mixed Greek and Yuron salads with an orange juice."With her plate and juice, she joined Carolina at her table."You are eating healthy." said Carolina."Yeah, you know, always afraid to gain weight. I know, there are pills for that... I guess I just love salads. Meat make me feel so full."Carolina smiled at her remark.Jennifer looked at the front bay. The view was incredible. "That's the first time I realized how awesome the view is here."Carolina laughed, making Jennifer wondering why."You are right." Carolina replied, making Jennifer wait for an explanation. "Don't you forget it was also my first shift on this new ship?""Oh right!" replied Jennifer who had forgotten. "So, the previous Mithrandir had not such a view?""Far from it. The Mess was quite small and it was on the starboard side. Not a fore view like on this ship.""I guess I am lucky then to begin my starfleet career on such a ship." replied Jennifer."Yes you are."Carolina and Jennifer were silent for a few seconds."So, tell me more about you.....about your family." asked Carolina.(Posted by Nick) ' : 1 13B;CLuLwLLLLLNMPMMMMOOOO"P2PTUn{{ FG>:ԸԤhomB*OJQJphhomB*phhomB*CJOJQJphhomB*CJOJQJphhomB*OJQJphhomOJQJhomB*OJQJphhomOJQJhom@ &:;{ 9 n ' : z 1 &dP &dP 123st*+pqxy-@AAHJZ\ln$>?24O!#VXZ !!!!!>"@""""" # ###8#:## $$$$%%%%%%%%%&&$&\&"'$'@'A'U'W'(((())*!*++,,,,..)/+//////00;0=0"2#2788??@@@@AABBBBB;CCCDDEEEEE;F:; 5et()fgCDTWhomOJQJhomCJOJQJhomCJOJQJhomhomB*OJQJph D:;CDVWOP$%WXIJ!"XYZ(.
